My Backgound:
I am an alumni from University of Maryland, University College with a BA in Psychology/Art and I recently received my MA degree in Professional Counseling at Argosy University.
I'm currently a member of the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance, a non-profit organization that sponsors community artist in the Maryland, Washington, D.C and Virginia area. I'm also a member of the Generation DiVas Social Club (a non-profit organization) in the DC/MD/VA area that provides business exploration opportunities, mentorship and counseling services to the youth.
Artist Statement:
Medium: Oil Paint, Charcoal
I started drawing when I was old enough to write however; drawing never really satisfied me. Satisfaction began in 2003 when I was required to take a Painting 101 class at the University of Maryland. I’ve been painting for satisfaction ever since. It thrills, entertains, satisfies and motivates me when I create my masterpieces. I feel that I am in control of my own world and I can visit there anytime I want. In my world, I can create images that satisfy everyone and leave smiles on faces. I want to capture pleasure and joy through paint and canvas creatively.
When I’m creating my masterpieces, I think of entertaining my audience. I think of inviting them into my colorful world and hoping they want to stay awhile for a relaxing visit. My work is reality. I enjoy taking the simplest things and bringing out the beauty they already possessed. I also enjoy taking the not so attractive things and bringing their beauty to focus for the naked eye.
One of my mediums is Oil Paint. I use it because it has a very smooth texture that glides easily on canvases and boards. I love it because you can thicken it or thin it out for different views and the colors stand right off the canvas. It’s also easy to mix and mixing is one of my strong points in my work. The colors should be what stand out and for me, mixing a color to create another color is very important to my work. It creates that general “umph” to that masterpiece so that visitors stay relaxed and entertained.
Charcoal is another medium I use. This is my “krazy/sexy/cool medium”. Charcoal is used when I need to get a little messy with art. I love using this medium because it captures shadows and white and black concepts easily. It is great to use for rough edge pictures. (meaning pictures that give you a feeling of unfinished but are finished)
